Aside from the three new restaurants inside the Athenee Residence complex the closest restaurant to THOCBDC is "Delices", a Vietnamese restaurant in the adjacent Ruam Rudee Shopping Mall. Last night was the first time that I went there. WOW! I love it. I had slivered chicken soup and soft shell crabs.

It has been a while since I have had a dozen raw and fresh oysters. Last night I had 12 of them during Happy Hour at Witch's Tavern. Witch's is one of the several excellent substance outlets located in the Ruan Rudee Shopping Mall ... that ever so convenient place next to our condo. Their oysters are flown in fresh every Thursday. Witch's always serves them with the most delicious discretionary sauces.

A quiet day: feeding the spirits and looking in the 'mirror'.

This morning we went to Siam Paragon's Food Halls. I can never get enough of this place. Even London's Harrods can not equal what we have here in Bangkok.

Early this afternoon I took the SkyTrain from our local station, Ploenchit, to Siam. From there I walked the SkyTrain structure back to the Chitlom station. On the way I photographed some of the wreckage caused by the fires on May 19th. Today I want to show you the damage and destruction at just the Siam movie theater. Tomorrow I'll post photos of the destruction that took place between Siam and Chitlom.

As I walked on the elevated SkyTrain pedestrian structure that linked the now destroyed Siam Theatre to the Central World burn area I passed many Thais with sad and worried expressions on their faces. The school kids in their uniforms cast embarrassed glances at the wreckage; adults seemed to look just straight ahead; tourists took photos.

Since my last visit to Central World much fresh scaffolding has been erected in preparation for the clearing of the burnt rubble and the site's restoration. But, I know that it will be many months ... maybe more than a couple of years ... before things are what they once were (in a physical sense).

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 (Pre-journal) David's Birthday

My artist friend, Leeanna Yater*, said that Walmart in China is obviously catering to local needs and wants.

* She is the creative artist behind all of my hot air balloons.

I love this city at night. Well, I love it always ... but night is special.
